INTERNATIONAL CAMPS

This fun adventure, now taking place in the all-new Astronaut Training Experience Facility, connects international students to NASA’s mission of studying and understanding Mars with the goal of landing humans on the surface someday. Focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math challenges and activities, this unique program spans over 5 days with fun simulators, virtual reality, a walk on Mars, and robotic challenges. Students will receive a briefingwith a real veteran NASA astronaut, lunch and afternoon snacks daily, a tour of the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and the Apollo/Saturn V Center, Camp KSC T-shirts, and a certificate of completion.

ASTRONAUT TRAINING
EXPERIENCE

LAUNCH MISSION

Astronaut Recruit : Launch a spacecraft into low- Earth orbit to rendezvous and dock with an orbital target.
Mission Control Crew : Assist Capsule Crew in completing tasks using instructions on touchscreen workstations
Orion Capsule Crew : Practice hand-eye coordination under the supervision of the Mission Control Crew.

SPACEWALK TRAINING

Microgravity Chair : Apply Newton's Laws of Motion to compensate for exaggerated pitch, roll and yaw while performing simple mechanical tasks.
Training Control Center : Give instructions to assist the explorers in their tasks.
Safety Support Handler : Helping those in the microgravity chairs the same way safety drivers assist astronauts in Johnson Space Center's Neutral Buoyancy Lab.

MARS OPERATIONS

Walk on Mars : Using Virtual Reality. experience the sensation of walking on the surface of Mars, exploring different terrains and solving challenges.
Mars Lander Rover Control : Experience the sensation of landing a vehicle on the surface of Mars in a powered landing. and driving it over rough terrain to dock with the nearby base.

MARS BASE 1

MB1 OPERATIONS

A resupply ship from Earth, has broken apart during landing. strewing pieces of hull, engine and payload over a large area surrounding Mars Base 1 and its outposts Handle this emergency until the regular Ops Crew returns from their break.

BOTANY LAB

Food and oxygen supply for MB1 comes from greenhouses. In the Plant Lab, research is done to test new plant varieties, growth media, lighting treatments and nutrients to determine which crops will best meet a variety of nutritional needs for the residents. Conduct real, controlled scientific experiments on a range of herbs, fruits and vegetables.

ENGINEERING LAB

MB1 relies on photovoltaic panels to provide solar energy for many systems, Dust mitigation is a constant priority and many different systems have been tested and implemented.
Program robots to perform basic movements
Design a pattern to allow robots to work in combination without collisions
Evaluate accessible resources to determine the best use of each robot
